Plainville Select Board advances town meeting date flexibility, celebrates $1.5 million well grant

NORTH ATTLEBORO — March 28, 2022 — Plainville Select Board moves to loosen annual town meeting scheduling rules and banks a $1.5 million federal well grant. The board voted unanimously March 28 to direct Town Administrator Brian Noble to work with town counsel on a bylaw amendment that would let the Select Board set the date of the annual town meeting, replacing a fixed first-Monday-in-June requirement — a change that would require a two-thirds vote at the June town meeting. Noble separately confirmed the town had secured a $1.5 million federal grant with no identified restrictions to fund acquisition, drilling, and pumping for a new well, with Select Board Chair Brian Kelly reporting the congressman who delivered the grant signaled he was ready to "do more." The board also unanimously appointed Town Planner Christopher Yarbrick to the Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District Commission and heard a candidate forum featuring 12 people running for seats on the Select Board, Planning Board, School Committee, King Phillip Regional School Committee, Board of Assessors, Park Commission, Redevelopment Authority, and Library Board of Trustees ahead of the April 4 town election.
